SoC and roll
Samsung has confirmed that its M1 PMP (portable media player) will be available across Europe later this month. The M1 will be the first device using NVIDIA's Tegra system on a chip (SoC), with Microsoft's Zune HD restricted to the US for now.
NVIDIA has openly staked its future on the success of Tegra, although it biggest target market is smartphones. In a recent exclusive interview with HEXUS.channel, Tegra boss Mike Rayfield explained that we won't be seeing Tegra smartphones for a little while yet, so the M1 looks like being the only manifestation of Tegra we'll see for a while.
The battle of the next generation SoCs is hotting up now, with Tegra coming up against Qualcomm's Snapdragon and other ARM/Imagination based offerings, while Intel must be looking to deliver its Moorestown processor, which it says will be usable in smartphones, soon.
As well as confirming the imminent arrival of the M1, Samsung also gave us the following pricing and availability details for the netbooks and thin-and-light notebooks it launched recently:
N130 SSP £279 available now
N140 SSP £329 available now
N510 SSP £399 available next week
X120 SSP £499 available next week
X420 TBC available Oct 22nd
X520 TBC available Oct 22nd
Finally, here are some more piccies of the M1.
