EA has announced the first paid DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront. The Outer Rim expansion will launch first for season pass owners, on Tuesday 22nd March, and become generally available to purchase from 5th April (a fortnight later). DICE released a trailer to tease the new maps and features in the DLC.

In summary, the Outer Rim DLC provides the following:

  • 4 new maps
  • Extraction mode
  • 2 new heroes
  • New weapons and star cards
  • But… no new single player story content

Exciting and iconic locations that the Outer Rim DLC will allow Star Wars; Battlefront players to enjoy their 'battle fantasies' in include; the factories of Sullust, Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine, and a sail barge garage on Tatooine.

The new extraction mode is similar the commonly seen in RTS games concept of 'escort to safety'. In this mode in the Outer Rim you will have to make sure a valuable piece of cargo or VIP gets to their destination intact – in the face of opposition from Empire forces. Just to add a bit of pressure, these extraction missions must be completed within strict deadlines.

Who are these iconic heroes, pictured above? On the left is Greedo, who Han Solo shot (under the table) in the first Start Wars film. On the right you can see Nien Numb, who helped pilot the Millennium Falcon in the Return of the Jedi. Now you can play as either of these characters.

New weapons are always appealing, and this DLC includes a new Relby V-10 rifle and DT-12 blaster pistol. Furthermore you can collect and equip the Scatter Gun, Dioxis Grenade, and Adrenaline Stim Star Cards.

I thought EA promised this game wasn't going to have DLC's ?
EA promised…there;s your mistake right there!
IIRC the promise was no microtransactions. Not that the game is worth playing either way
It's more like Battlefield: Star Wars than a Battlefront game. RIP Battlefront II.
Awesome
