The end of over a decade of production



After more than a decade of production, Sony have announced the end of the PlayStation, the console that got them into the marketplace and under your telly all those years ago.

Sony have announced that they’ve ceased production of their PlayStation console, finally closing a chapter in their history that has seen the PlayStation and it’s updated PSOne version. The two versions together have sold more than 100 million units worldwide, undoubtedly scoring it as one of the most successful consoles ever produced.

Sony, aware that there’s many a classic PlayStation game to be had, have also announced that they’re working on an emulator for downloadable versions of PlayStation games for the PSP… so I guess the PSP really is as powerful as a PlayStation after all…

All good things must come to an end..

Although, having had a production run of over 11 years, it's got to be in the running for the world's longest running offical production console :) (ignoring all those cheap chinese clones)

surely the gameboy beats it. bare in mind, i think only the ‘psone’ has been made for the last ~5 years.. the game boy started in '89 and the gba didnt come out until 2001 afaik..

Ah, but there was the pocket, the colour, etc…
I doubt they made the classic for more than 3/4 years.

Nah, the Atari 2600 beats them all… Production started in 1977 and finished in…. 1991! :surprised:

colour didnt come out till '98, and they were still making the classic then, afaik
