The end of the PSP in its current form could be nigh if reports that Sony has begun phasing out the distribution of development kits are true.

According to the French site PSPGen, Sony has issued a statement to SCE DevNet partners signalling that November 15, 2010 will see the end of the distribution of development tools for the DTP-T2000A and DTP-H2500A series of hand-helds.

If true it could mean that the arrival of the brand new model, dubbed the PSP2, may be closer than initially thought, with some corners of the web suggesting that it could even coincide with the release of Nintendo’s new DS model, the 3DS, in 2011.

Sony has yet to even announce a new PSP model, but last month reports came in that Sony showcased prototype PSP2 hardware to some developers and Mortal Kombat developer, Netherrealm Studios, confirmed that it had one in its possession.

In the meantime, watch out for price cuts on current PSP models!

Hopefully they will do the right thing this time and release it with 2 analogue sticks
Just finished Metal Gear Solid - Peacewalker..easily the best psp game.
I would be really interested in the psp2 if it was graphically superior or at least on par with the iphone 4. Especially with devs like Epic and their unreal engine
