Initially available on a free 30 day trial, the Music Unlimited service boasts a catalogue of over 7 million songs and will feature a two-tiered pricing structure. For £3.99 a month, users gain access to a restricted set of playlists created by Sony, whereas forking out £9.99 will give you access to premium channels and customisable play lists
The Music Unlimited service launched in the U.S. in December 2010 and is available on a range of produts, including Sony TV’s, PlayStation 3 and lap-tops. So far Sony appears to be quite happy with the amount of interest shown in the service. Shawn Layden, Sony Network Entertainment’s executive VP and COO, recently said: “I’ve been very happy with the numbers we’re getting back. We’re watching carefully because the service has just started up and there are a lot of people who are in a 30-day free trial, and we’d like to see high conversion of that – but we know the realities.”
The official press release reveals more about the service:
Music Unlimited gives PlayStation Portable users the music they want, when they want it on-the-go with instant streaming access to a catalogue of over seven million songs on any PC or laptop, as well as a variety of Sony devices, including Sony’s 2010 and 2011 models of network-enabled BRAVIA TVs, Blu-Ray Disc players, Blu-Ray Disc Home Theatre systems, as well as PlayStation 3, VAIO laptops, and now the PlayStation Portable. PSP owners can also enjoy a common and synchronized music experience on their PS3 systems as well as PCs and other network-enabled Sony devices without the need to manage or transfer music files.
