First trailer hits the net

The trailer of the rumoured next instalment in the Sonic series, entitled Sonic Unleashed, has been confirmed as true by SEGA.

A leaked trailer and screenshots appeared on gaming website Kotaku last week, but SEGA refused to confirm the game's existence. However, at the end of last week SEGA contacted the site to request the removal of the assets, which was promptly followed by a letter from the developer's legal representatives.

Kotaku has refused to take down the assets and instead has published the letter from the lawyers, which confirms that Sonic Unleashed is indeed a title in the works.

"It has come to our attention that your website, Kotaku.com , has unauthorized postings of Sega's copyrighted work, the debut trailer and screenshots for Sonic Unleashed ("Work")," reads the letter from SEGA's Senior Legal Counsel.

You can view the trailer at Kotaku.

Oooh, could this be a return to “old school” game play?
When I was young, just the word Sonic used to get me excited about a game. Today, the word Sonic makes me think it's a game best avoided.

SEGA has its work cut out to change that opinion.

Mario on the other hand, that's still a name that I'd associate with great games. Where exactly did Sonic go wrong?

By going 3D? I just don't think Sonic's speed translates well into the third dimension.

Sonic Adventure [which ironicly was 3D] on the DC was the last great Sonic game I played (although I couldn't get hold of SA2 for the DC.) Sonic Heroes on the GC was ok but did get confusing trying to control 3 characters at the same time.

The Wii game Sonic Rings is supposed to be OK and is at least better than the 360 game
the wii game isnt great to be honest, but is probably better than the 360 one. My son adores sonic so we have them both, but they are pretty bad.. i remember the first time he saw the trailer for silver “he said look dad its like he is moving things with giant invisible forks”…ahh bless the innocence of youth and willingness to accept terrible games for their favourite characters :)

The 360 one was awful. They need to really rethink the Sonic games or go back to the formula that worked
