Watering eyes
In Full Auto you can blow up everything up in sight, both from a gameplay point of view and graphically, this is the best part of the game. Hurtle yourself of a ramp into a shop front, an exploding barrel, oncoming traffic or an advertising hoarding and watch the whole place go up in a dazzling display of landscape butchery. Although the cars do have a reflection effect they fail to capture the realism seen in the likes of PGR3 and feel somewhat dated. The demo track is well detailed, whilst buildings, barrels, ramps, lamp posts and other street furniture, all add to the cluttered environment.
Surround sound does sound fantastic on Full Auto, shotguns boom, machine guns menacingly chatter and grenades will have you ducking and checking out of the window in case of imminent attack.
Although the demo is extremely short it didn't leave me begging for more, this is pure unadulterated, raw arcade racing and, although it may appeal to those gamers looking for a quick fix of high speed action, racing enthusiasts will be frustrated by the lack of actual racing. In a typical Sega style, the graphics may lead to some heavy eye watering - after half a dozen races I was extremely glad to take a break.
This First Look is purely based on the demo and in no way reflects the full version, of which we have not played.
