The Final Round
The Piece de resistance of Virtua Fighter 5 is the online play. It's as smooth as butter. I've been sliding into games immediately, experiencing no frame rate issues and more importantly playing in some great matches. The online mode is really where it's at and it's what sets VF5 apart from the PS3 version. Yeah, VF5 is great on the PS3, but it's incredible on Xbox 360.I've fought with every character in the game and I don't have an outright favourite because they all have the moves available to be able to out fight the other. This means that online there doesn't seem to be one particular character that people are choosing, unlike some games where certain cars, teams etc. have an advantage (*coughs* FIFA 08 *coughs* Barcelona). As you engage in each battle it's all about the skill of the player - which is exactly how it should be!
Aside from being able to breeze through the game on normal level, I'm hard pressed to think of anything that I don't like about Virtua Fighter 5. Oh...hang on a second. I don't like the music. I hate techno and I'm also sure I heard the intro music to Hollyoaks. Nevertheless, there is a fairly extensive soundtrack so you might find something you like in there.
The only real negative I can think of is that VF5 is going to take some time to master, especially if I want to rise up the online rankings. This may not appeal to casual gamers, but others will relish the challenge.
The Virtua Fighter series has an exceptional heritage and with each new title comes the expectation from the fans for Sega to deliver the goods yet again. Well, you can put your minds at rest. The good news is that they have delivered...Virtua Fighter 5 is without doubt the finest fighting game to have ever graced our console.
