Saves a bit of time

There can be few bigger drags in modern life than having to get your phone out of your pocket. Take it out, put it back in, take it out again - there's only so much a guy can take. Don't they know how busy I am? Thankfully Sony Ericsson has come up with a solution to this Chinese water torture - the LiveView.

Joking aside, this Bluetooth accessory does look quite fun. It's a little wristwatch-sized screen that syncs with, in principle, any Android phone and allows you to remote control it and display information from it.

"The Sony Ericsson LiveView is the first Sony Ericsson accessory to be compatible with the open Android platform which gives developers an opportunity to be creative and develop the next must-have innovative application." said Mikael Henriksson of Sony Ericsson Extras.

The device comes with wrist strap, which allows it to be worn in the same way as a watch. You can do things like read text messages, check out Facebook and Twitter stuff, control audio output and access some apps. As it's Android, developers are free to adapt apps for it.

It will be available in Q4 of this year and we believe is priced at around €60, although other sources have the UK price at £70...

Here's a pic and a vid.

Love the idea..dont make the watch into a phone, but make it the companion to the phone..something like this is perfect for just checking messages/twitter/4squared etc without needing to get out your phone. It solves the input issues of phone watches whilst still offering what is for me the major benefits.

Now if only apple would make one..i'm not a fan of the android OS so this exact device is no used to me, but an iOS version would be great. It's what the new nano should have been! Ah well I can wait a year for one I guess ;)

Can you imagine how much more hype there would be if Apple did this?
I can see it happening too…the new nano is the perfect form factor for this - terrible as an ipod imo but would suit this functionality well :)

Release alongside iPhone 5 next june? Price tag of $99/£99?

I'd buy one. But then i'm a muppet ;)
The hype would be through the roof, but of course it would only work with iPhones - and it would cost at least £170 ;)

I love the idea of this: most of the time I get my phone out of pocket to check whether I've had missed calls, texts or emails - so much easier, and more subtle, to just look at my watch :D

Plus since it apparently syncs and displays the time as well, you can even use it was a watch!!!
Sony have made similar watches for a while, just the first one that's Android'd. Pretty surprised by this actually given how poor bluetooth on Android is. I've got a Sony MW600 bluetooth headset, the track name and other info came up fine with my one W850i phone but not my new X10 Mini Pro.
