We could fill the pages of mobile-device.biz with groovy new apps every day if we wanted to, but not many grab our attention. However, when one secures $41 million in VC funding before the product is even released, it's worth a closer look.

The app in question is called Color. It's a photo-sharing app designed specifically for smartphones. What makes it intriguing is that it focuses on the unique use-cases that smartphones enable - specifically location. When you take a photo and upload it to Color, it becomes permanently tagged to the location from which you took it.

And then Color throws in a social element. Again this is an evolution of the current model, as typified by Flickr or Facebook, where your photo is viewed by your ‘friends'. This has more in common with Twitter in so much as anyone can view your updates. But in this case they don't need to ‘follow' you at all, they just need to be in the location you were when you uploaded the photo.

The app is already available on the iPhone and is expected to be released for Android today. Here's a video, and for a more comprehensive description of the app we you can try Forbes.
