It's official folks, the UK will receive its first live public 4G LTE network on October 30th, as Everything Everywhere prepares to launch its new service.

The roll-out will begin in 10 cities, expanding to 16 before the end of the year. As previously listed, these cities will include:

  • Belfast*
  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • Cardiff
  • Derby*
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow
  • Hull*
  • Leeds
  • Liverpool
  • London
  • Manchester
  • Newcastle*
  • Nottingham*
  • Sheffield
  • Southampton*
*By end of 2012

EE has yet to confirm pricing details, however existing networks, Orange and T-Mobile, are already offering Samsung's Galaxy S3 LTE and Galaxy Note 2, Apple's iPhone 5, HTC's One XL and Huawei's Ascend P1 LTE as 4G-ready devices; with Nokia's Lumia 820 and 920 to follow in early November. This is all with a view to offering an upgrade to 4G at any point during a contract, where a new EE 4G sim-card will be required. It's suggested price differences may be from as little as £3 per month.

£3 per month probably for 100MB or something daft. I can't see them offering a good value service.
From what I read I assumed they meant that the difference could be a mere £3, so a £25 contract on orange 3g could be £28 on EE 4g which aint bad for brand new kit :), should be equal in the next year or two then.

Why would they sell you a 4G phone with a 3G SIM though - for the ‘upgrade’ path to then be available?

I'm on an S3 atm, and i have an Orange sim, but i'm not 100% sure mine has an LTE radio in it (though there is an LTE option in the JB ROM i'm using…).

O/T: Anyone on EE had absolutely pants speeds today?
You wouldnt have the LTE radio, 99% sure the UK model doesnt have it unfortunately so you wouldnt be able to take advantage of these new speeds (although being a less congested network might make a bigger difference!). You would just swap out your sim though if you had a 4g phone, i think samsung is releasing an LTE variant in the UK soon.

My internet speed hasnt been great on my phone, orange tend to be slower in my experience :(.

Thought as much :(

I usually get fine speed but today its just been terrible - i don't know if its to do with the EE re-branding happening yesterday/today. I just need to know if its a nationwide thing or if my ROM i flashed last night is useless. :p
