Mini morsel
Windows Phone 7 owners will apparently see that a software upgrade is available for their handsets from today.
However, Microsoft has warned in a blog post that it is not code-named Mango, which it refers to as ‘the one with cut and paste' but a ‘relatively small' update.
The update is the platform's first and is designed to improve the software update process itself in preparation for the larger update that everyone is talking about, which Microsoft has confirmed is set to include a boosted Marketplace search and of course the highly anticipated copy and paste function.
Microsoft has started sending out the update today but will not send it to all its users at once to ‘help ensure the process goes smoothly'.
WP7 owners must connect their handset to a computer to get the update via the Zune PC software or WP7 Connector for Mac, following on-screen instructions to in install one of the programmes.
Annoyingly, Microsoft said those organised people who have previously installed Zune software or the Mac equivalent on their computer, "might actually need to update that program first and then use it to update your phone."
It is thought that the big update that everyone is waiting for referred to as Mango will roll out in October.
It has previously been reported that Mango, which is tipped to include HTML5 support, might be renamed Windows Phone 7.5 with Windows Phone 8 planned for release in early 2012.
It appears Nokia is keeping an especially close eye on the update release calendar as it is rumoured the phone giant is waiting for the release of Mango before launching its new WP7 handsets, after partnering with Microsoft.
