AMD TEAMS WITH STEINBERG TO DELIVER DIGITAL AUDIO
WORKSTATIONS

TO TOP MUSIC INDUSTRY PRODUCERS

AMD Athlon(tm) MP processors and Steinberg Nuendo
software provide power and value for advanced studio technology based on PC
workstations

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. -October 5, 2002- AMD (NYSE: AMD)
today announced it has teamed with Steinberg to provide digital audio
workstations for Steinberg Producer Group members including top recording
industry producers Rory Kaplan, Greg Ladanyi, Fred Maher and Elliot Scheiner.

These AMD Athlon(tm) MP processor-based digital audio
workstations allow professional and advanced hobbyist customers to perform pre-
and post-production on one workstation to produce high-resolution audio for CD
or DVD. By consolidating audio production efforts on one stable and powerful
system, producers can realize greater efficiency in their workflow and condensed
production cycles, leaving more free time for the creative process.

"AMD Athlon MP processor-based workstations using
Steinberg Nuendo Software have recently been used to master the music of
legendary artists including James Taylor, R.E.M. and Frank Zappa," said Ed
Ellett, AMD's vice president of client business. "AMD Athlon MP processors
provide producers with the means to get more work done per session by powering
reliable and scalable systems. AMD processors used for producing high-resolution
audio represent another facet of AMD product adoption in end-to-end digital
production."

"By providing high-end systems to the industry's most
demanding producers, Steinberg and AMD are proving that native solutions can
meet and exceed the needs of the professional community," said Steve Garth, CEO
of Steinberg North America.

"Recently I remixed the R.E.M. record "Document" and Roy
Orbison's "Live at Austin City Limits" for Surround 5.1 using the AMD Athlon MP
processor-based Studio Pro Elite digital audio workstation hosting Steinberg
Nuendo software," said Elliot Scheiner. "The performance and stability of Nuendo
running on the AMD processor-based digital audio workstation allowed these two
fantastic records to be remixed and mastered for re-release as DVD-A titles. I'm
extremely happy with the AMD/Steinberg combination."

"Fred Maher and I worked together on the Jackson Browne
"Running on Empty" re-release in Surround Sound for Warner Brothers, and The
Midnight Oil Surround 6.1 release, "Capricornia," for DTS all produced on AMD
Athlon MP processor-based systems," said Greg Landanyi. "The AMD processor-based
systems with Steinberg Nuendo software have been solid workhorses for us. They
provide what we need from a digital audio workstation - speed, stability and
dependability."

"Flawless, fast and reliable - the combination of
Steinberg Nuendo and AMD processors was instrumental in completing the remaster
of Frank Zappa "Live Halloween Concert, 1978" in Surround 5.1 for a DTS
entertainment DVD-A release, in the highest quality and on time," said Rory
Kaplan.

The digital audio workstations were configured with
industry standard plug-ins allowing customers to record audio tracks to be mixed
for DVD-A, a surround production capable format, without any specialized
hardware.

About the AMD Athlon(tm) MP Processor

The AMD Athlon(tm) MP processor is a seventh-generation
x86 processor designed for high-performance multiprocessing servers and
workstations. AMD Athlon MP processors are used by leading corporations to
increase productivity in areas such as oil and gas exploration, Web-hosting
services and motion picture rendering. In addition, many of the world's most
prestigious universities and research institutions use AMD Athlon MP processors
in superclusters for compute-intensive research applications. A key advantage of
AMD's multiprocessing platform is Smart MP technology, which greatly enhances
overall platform performance by increasing data movement between the two CPUs,
chipset and memory system. Smart MP technology features dual point-to-point,
high-speed 266MHz system buses with Error Correcting Code

(ECC) support designed to provide up to 2.1GB per second
per CPU of bus bandwidth in a dual-processor system. Smart MP technology also
has an optimized Modified Owner Exclusive Shared Invalid (MOESI) cache coherency
protocol that manages data and memory traffic in a multiprocessing environment.

The AMD Athlon MP processor features the patented
QuantiSpeed(tm) architecture, which includes a high-performance full-speed cache
with hardware data pre-fetch, a fully pipelined superscalar floating point
engine, and an exclusive L2 Translation Look-aside Buffer (TLB). The processor
also incorporates 3DNow!รค Professional technology, which has 51 new instructions
that extend AMD's 3DNow! technology, enabling smoother, richer and more lifelike
images, more precise digital audio and an enriched Internet experience. The AMD
Athlon MP processor is compatible with AMD's stable Socket A infrastructure, and
supports DDR memory technology. It is manufactured using AMD's 0.13 micron
copper process technology in Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany.
