SUNNYVALE, CA - MARCH 12, 2003 - AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced its low-voltage mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP-M processors will power the new Fujitsu LifeBook S2000 notebook. Less than four pounds and 1.36 inches in height, the first-ever AMD processor-based thin-and-light notebook available in the U.S. is designed to meet the challenging mobility and productivity needs of business and home consumers.

"With the introduction of the new low-voltage mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor, customers now have an exciting new alternative for lighter and more portable notebooks," said Rob Herb, executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer for AMD. "AMD and its partners are delivering new thin- and-light notebooks for end-users who require outstanding quality, productivity and performance."

Setting a new standard for price and performance in the thin-and-light market, AMD and Fujitsu partnered to deliver a notebook computer with integrated wireless communication and extended system battery life. The result is a travel-friendly tool enabling great productivity and long connectivity for end users.

AMD is deploying its low-power mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors with an open architecture approach, helping to ensure OEMs can easily integrate their choice of 802.11 solutions into AMD processor-based mobile systems. With integrated WiFi-certified wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11b) capabilities available in the LifeBook S2000 notebook, in addition to its existing modem and Ethernet ports, mobile professionals can stay connected in several types of computing environments. The notebook also features two USB2.0 ports for enabling the transfer of large digital files in seconds.

"Mobile users are continually looking for ways to become more mobile, not just while on the road, but also at work, school or home," said Toshio Morohoshi, president and chief executive officer, Fujitsu PC Corporation. "Fujitsu designed the LifeBook S2000 notebook with all of the mobile users' needs in mind. The addition of the AMD processor enables us to offer a high-performance, aggressively priced system with advanced wireless capabilities that provides users with maximum flexibility to stay connected wherever their computing environment may be."

The LifeBook S2000 notebook features AMD PowerNow!(tm) technology that helps extend the battery life of a notebook without compromising performance. In addition to AMD power management technology, LifeBook S2000 notebooks will feature a port replicator option for easy docking, a key benefit for business users.

"The thin-and-light market represents the largest and fastest-growing segment of the notebook PC market," said Matt Sargent, director of research, Personal Computers, ARS. "The ability of manufacturers to customize their mobile solutions and offer a broad range of choices to notebook buyers becomes even more critical as small-businesses and home consumers join enterprises in the quest for portability and connectivity."

All mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors are Microsoft(r) Windows(r) Hardware Quality Laboratory-qualified and are extensively tested for compatibility with thousands of business applications, including the most popular office productivity suites. The LifeBook S2000 notebook is available with a choice of Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Professional.
