INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, Berlin, April 29, 2003 – HP (NYSE:HPQ) today announced a series of developer initiatives to support independent software vendors (ISVs) in porting and developing applications for the IntelÒ Itanium®2 architecture. HP also announced it is the first to ship Itanium 2-based workstations running MicrosoftÒ WindowsÒ XP 64-bit Edition 2003 operating system, and will showcase a variety of HP personal and enterprise products with the latest Intel technology.

Today’s news aligns with Intel’s theme of “Accelerating convergence: communications and computing in an unwired world,” and is the latest milestone in HP´s commitment to helping the ISV community and customers of all sizes achieve greater agility, flexibility, and return on their IT investments by delivering highly optimized, standards-based technology on Windows, Linux, and Unix operating systems.

Beginning in May 2003, HP will hold ISV developer events for more than fourteen countries across Europe. Arranged by HP and supported by HP partners Intel, Microsoft and Oracle, HP organizes 60-hour non-stop events at which more than 500 software developers will gather onsite to code their end-user applications for Itanium 2-based systems.

While onsite, developers will have the opportunity to start and finish porting projects and will receive continued support from HP after the event. In cooperation with the HP Developer & Solution Partner Programme (DSPP), HP will lend HP Itanium-based servers and workstations for one year to developers that participate in the developer events and plan to port their products to Itanium 2 architecture. In addition, the programme will provide participants with an overview of available development and performance optimization tools, and access to technical experts who can explain the best route for application migration and development.

DSPP offers a wide range of services for ISVs, developers and systems integrators who are developing applications based on HP technology. HP expects more than 150 developers from Finland and other Nordic and Baltic countries to attend the kick-off event, which will take place May 7-9, 2003 in Espoo, Finland.

“HP is committed to supporting the Itanium 2 architecture as the platform technology of the future and will continue to be at the forefront of the market for Itanium 2- based systems by bringing together all important partners and developers,” said Rudi Schmickl, vice president, Business Critical Systems, HP EMEA. “The events provide developers with an atmosphere of innovation and readily available technology and expertise from HP and its partners.”

“Nokia has worked together with HP at the Mobile E-services Bazaar camps for mobile developers in the past several years and the collaboration has been very fruitful,” said Jari Pasanen, vice president, Nokia Mobile Phones. “I'm glad to say that the camp model really works.”

“With this joint Developer Initiative, HP and Intel are increasing momentum for the Itanium Architecture by supporting ISVs in EMEA to deliver successfully superior solutions optimised for the most demanding enterprise needs,” said Mike Fister, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Enterprise Platforms Group, Intel Corporation “The combination of Itanium based systems from HP together with the technology and know how of hundreds of ISVs across EMEA provides customers with a highly scaleable, cost-effective high performance platform for business-critical applications.”

In a separate communication also released today, HP announced that its high-end HP Workstation zx2000 and zx6000 models are the first Itanium 2-based workstations to ship with Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit Edition 2003. This milestone will mark the development of the next wave of powerful Itanium 2-based workstation applications. These latest workstation updates follow the recent launch of the HP Workstation xw4100, based on the Intel® 875P high-performance chipset, and demonstrate HP´s continued commitment to Intel technology.

At the same time, HP is reinforcing its mobility leadership by announcing that the latest Intel technology is now available on the HP Evo N620c notebook, with the Intel Pentium® M processor, and on the iPAQ Pocket PC h5450, with the Intel® XScale™PXA 250 processor for accelerated multimedia and security.

HP hardware demonstrations at IDF Berlin will include the HP zx2000 and zx6000 workstations, an HP Superdome system running UNIX, Linux and Windows concurrently on the Itanium architecture, Oracle 9i Real Application Clusters on HP ProLiant servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS, Itainum 2-based servers, the latest HP ProLiant BL e-class and BL p-class server blades, and 8-way HP ProLiant servers.
