PRESS RELEASE
Taipei, Taiwan, September 18, 2019 – QNAP® Systems, Inc., a leading computing, networking and storage solution innovator, today officially released QTS 4.4.1. In addition to integrating Linux Kernel 4.14 LTS to support next-generation hardware platforms, QNAP is advancing NAS usability by incorporating highly-anticipated services, including a cloud storage gateway that makes hybrid cloud storage and applications easier, source-based deduplication to optimize backup and recovery efficiency, a Fibre Channel SAN solution, and much more.
“We gathered valuable user feedback from QTS 4.4.1 beta testing that helped us complete the official release,” said Ken Cheah, Product Manager at QNAP, adding “Our focus in this recent QTS update was integrating cloud storage services to help organizations seamlessly leverage the cloud for storage, while securing on-premises data and applications for more usage scenarios.”
Key new apps and features in QTS 4.4.1:
- HybridMount – File-based cloud storage gateway
The enhanced and renamed HybridMount (formerly CacheMount) integrates NAS devices with mainstream cloud services and enables low-latency access to cloud data via local caching. Users can also leverage versatile QTS features, such as file management, editing, and multimedia applications, for the NAS-connected cloud storage. Alternatively, users can simply use the remote mount service for mounting remote storage or cloud space with the HybridMount app and centrally access data via File Station. - VJBOD Cloud – Block-based cloud storage gateway
VJBOD Cloud allows mapping cloud object storage (including Amazon S3®, Google Cloud™, and Azure®) to a QNAP NAS as block-based cloud LUNs and cloud volumes, providing a secure and scalable method to back up local application data. Mounting cloud storage with the VJBOD Cloud cache engine enables near-LAN access speed to cloud data. Data stored in the cloud will be synchronized with NAS storage space to ensure service continuity in case of cloud outage. - HBS 3 introduces QuDedup technology to optimize backup time and storage
QuDedup technology eliminates redundant data at the source to reduce backup size, saving backup storage, bandwidth, and time. Users can install the QuDedup Extract Tool on their computer and easily restore deduplicated files to their normal status. HBS also supports TCP BBR Congestion Control to greatly improve extranet data transfer speeds when backing up data to the cloud. - QNAP NAS as a Fibre Channel SAN solution
QNAP NAS devices installed with compatible Fibre Channel adapters can be easily added to SAN environments to provide high-performance storage and backup for today's data intensive applications, while also allowing users to leverage many QNAP NAS benefits, including snapshot protection, auto-tiered storage, SSD cache acceleration, and more. - QuMagie – Brand-new AI albums
QuMagie, the next generation Photo Station, features a streamlined user interface, a built-in timeline scroll, integrated AI-based photo organization, customizable folder covers, and a powerful search tool, providing the ultimate photo management and file sharing solution. - Multimedia Console centralizes multimedia app management
Multimedia Console consolidates all QTS multimedia applications into one app, allowing easy, centralized multimedia app management. Users can select source files for each multimedia application and set permission settings. - Flexible management of Qtier’s SSD RAID tier
Users can flexibly remove an SSD from an SSD RAID group to change or add SSDs, or change the SSD RAID type or SSD type (SATA, M.2, QM2) when needed to enhance storage auto-tiering efficiency. - Self-Encrypting Drives (SEDs) ensure data protection
SEDs (e.g. Samsung® 860 and 970 EVO SSDs) offer built-in encryption features that remove the need for extra software or NAS system resources when encrypting data.
