Looks set to be a busy quarter for Intel
When Intel say it's got 16 new processors on the way, you might imagine it means in the next year or so. Well, in fact, nine of the new lineup annouced at CES will be available this month and the other seven will follow this quarter!
All 16 take advantage of the company's new transistor formula and 45nm manufacturing process. Significantly, the new line-up sees Intel 45nm CPUs finally make their way into notebooks in the form of five mobile processors. Boosts in performance, reduced power consumption and better battery life are just some of the claimed advantages.With the 45nm manufacturing process, the new chips are said to be up to 25 per cent smaller then previous versions and Intel claims that computer makers can use these smaller CPUs to create stylish all-in-one desktop PCs and sleeker notebooks.
A key feature with all of these processors is Intel HD Boost (formerly known as SSE4). This is claimed to 'deliver up to 70 per cent higher performance when encoding high definition footage'. Even the quad-core processors are aimed at enthusiasts and a majority of them carry 12MiB caches.

Commenting on the new CPUs, Mooly Eden, vice president and general manager of the mobile platforms group at Intel said, "The new products we're announcing today provide consumers and businesses with the benefit of sleeker and higher-performing laptops and more powerful and fashionable PCs that deliver for the most hard-core gamer, high-definition enthusiast and just about every other consumer demand."
