With all eyes on AMD's Fusion, the company's trio of new Phenom II processors almost slipped us by.
Launched at this week's CES, the latest additions to the range consist of the Phenom II X6 1065T, the Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition and the Phenom II X4 840. Starting at the top, the new hexa-core X6 1065T comes clocked at 2.9GHz and features 6MB of L3 cache and support for AMD Turbo Core technology. With a 95W TDP, it becomes AMD's quickest sub-100W hexa-core chip to date.
In the quad-core arena, the Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition edges out the previous 970 to become AMD's fastest-ever quad-core processor. Bumping the multiplier up to 18x, the new chip runs at 3.6GHz out of the box and maintains a 125W TDP. It's unlocked, too, so overclockers are free to push it way beyond conventional limits.
Should that all sound a bit too extreme, AMD's also adding to its entry-level quad-core range with the introduction of the Phenom II X4 840. Despite the Phenom II branding, this 95W 3.2GHz part features no L3 cache, suggesting that the chip is based on the Propus core synonymous with the lower-end Athlon II line.
AMD's info didn't include pricing, but we suspect these new chips will be making their way onto store shelves in the very near future.
