Intel Release Expected Penryn Performance Increase Indicators

Today, during the course of presentations at Intel's IDF Spring 2007 in Beijing and which, as always, HEXUS is bringing thorough and extensive coverage of directly from the event, Intel executives released interesting performance related information about the upcoming 'Penryn' family of system processors.

Pat Gelsinger cited performance increase indicators for Intel's upcoming 'Penryn' family to the rate of 15 percent for image related applications, 25 percent for 3-D rendering, in excess of 40% for gaming and again, in excess of 40% for video encoding using Intel SSE4 optimised video encoders.

The platform upon which the performance increase indicators were calculated, consisted of a pre-production 45nm Hi-k Intel quad core processor, running on a 1333MHz FSB, at a core speed of 3.33GHz and featuring 12MB cache. This was versus an Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme processor QX6800 running at 2.93 GHz, featuring a 1066 MHz FSB and 8MB cache.

Intel also released information about performance increases expected on HPC and workstation systems when comparing a pre-production 45nm Hi-k Intel® Xeon® processor featuring a 1600 MHz FSB for workstation and HPC systems and a 1333 MHz front side bus for servers, in comparison with the current quad-core Intel® Xeon® X5355 processors.

40% over Core 2 :crazy:
Does'nt it say 40% over the QX6800 Quad ? !!! :eek:
In circumstances that take advantage of SSE4 instructions that aren't present in Core 2 chips maybe?
