Samsung has launched its new SE790C curved 34-inch monitor. This is a widescreen monitor with its curve matching a segment of a 3000mm radius circle. The new monitor promises to provide "a distortion-free viewing experience with less eye strain and enhanced comfort for viewer".

Seoggi Kim, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics, said that the "SE790C offers an industry-leading and award-winning curvature for a truly immersive, comfortable and differentiating viewing experience". He continued to boast "Combined with superior picture quality, productivity and entertainment-enhancing technology features, and design sophistication, our latest curved monitor delivers on our brand promise to push the limits of what display solutions and innovative technology can deliver".

The key specifications of the Samsung SE790C are as follows:

  • 34-inch 21:9 aspect screen with 178 degree wide viewing angles
  • ULTRA-WQHD 3,440 x 1,440 pixels
  • Static contrast ratio of 3,000:1
  • Typical brightness of 300 cd/m2
  • Response time of 4ms
  • Picture-by-Picture (PbP) and Picture-in-Picture (PiP) 2.0 functions
  • User mode profiles including 'game mode'
  • Embedded 7-watt dual stereo speakers
  • Four USB 3.0 super-charging ports
  • Height-adjustable stand, VESA bracket

Above you may have read through the Samsung exec's spiel concerning the benefits of the SE790C. The reasoning behind the comfort claims is down to the curve of the monitor being closer to the natural arc of a users' view. Samsung says that the superior comfort on offer is backed and "validated by TÜV Rheinland, a leading international certification organization". Beyond the comfort qualities, the monitor has been certified for colour uniformity, colour fidelity and flicker free properties.

Samsung wrote to HEXUS today about this monitor but didn't provide further details such as the key pricing and availability information. Back at the end of September this year Samsung made available the curved 27-inch SD590C monitor, which looks to share many similarities to this larger model, that was priced at $429.99 in the US.
