On Monday HEXUS got the nod from AMD to publish the first set of confirmed tech specs, pricing and availability data for the shiny new Radeon RX Vega graphics cards. A lot of media attention has been put upon the top end cards, based upon the RX Vega 64, and how they compare to Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti. However the RX Vega 56 might be more important to AMD's bottom line and that is set to go head to head against the GTX 1070.
A few hours ago TweakTown published what it claims are performance stats for an AMD Radeon RX Vega 56. The site is very confident in its 'industry source' which has provided it with a quartet of interesting benchmark results / comparisons. The benchmarks fall so much in favour of the $399 RX Vega 56 that TweakTown dubs it a "GTX 1070 Killer".
The benchmark scores were harvested from a system with the following common components; an Intel Core i7-7700K @ 4.2GHz, 16GB of DDR4-3000MHz RAM, and running Windows 10.
Radeon RX Vega 56 benchmark results:
- Battlefield 1: 95.4FPS (GTX 1070: 72.2FPS)
- Civilization 6: 85.1FPS (GTX 1070: 72.2FPS)
- DOOM: 101.2FPS (GTX 1070: 84.6FPS)
- COD:IW: 99.9FPS (GTX 1070: 92.1FPS)
In the above games the following settings were selected; all the games ran at 2560 x 1440 pixels, and Battlefield 1 was run on Ultra settings, Civ 6 was on Ultra with 4x MSAA, DOOM was at Ultra with 8x TSAA enabled, and COD:IW was running on its High preset.
As noted by TweakTown the Radeon RX Vega 56 managed to outpace the GTX 1070 in Battlefield 1 by 32 per cent. The other games saw significant benefits on the Vega system too.
Rest assured HEXUS will have its AMD Radeon RX Vega reviews uploaded and published as soon as is possible. Let's hope that AMD can make enough to meet potential demand.
