ELSA roadmap hints at 45nm NVIDIA GeForce GT212 in Q1 '09

ELSA, a China-based manufacturer of PC components, recently held a channel meeting in which it put forward its NVIDIA enthusiast product roadmap.

As is often the case, that very roadmap has made its way onto the interwebs and it provides an insight into NVIDIA's upcoming products.

According to the slide, pictured above, NVIDIA will introduce a 55nm GeForce GT206 later this year, and it'll be followed by a 45nm GeForce GT212 in Q1 '09.

Though the slide doesn't offer any specification other than the smaller manufacturing process, the interwebs are already buzzing with theories on the GT206 and GT212 product names - notably the fact that these new offerings are dubbed as GT parts, as opposed to GTX.

We'll await official confirmation from NVIDIA, but one thing appears certain, the California-based graphics specialist is in a hurry to get to 45nm before ATI.

The roadmap also reveals yet another addition to the GeForce 9800 lineup in the form of the GeForce 9800 GTX+ HDV.

I was thinking “typical” when I started reading the headline….The day after I finally order my new gfx card, they make an announcement.

Luckily, its for next year :P


And 40nm road-mapped, that sounds quite a jump in a relatively short space of time.

Well the gtx 200 series really was a miserable failure, if they had gone 45nm instead then the 9800x2 would have held off ati's current star line up and q3/4 could have seen a true successor to g80.

Even though 4870 x2 is easily the best performer and does represent a power jump comparable to the 8800gtx, it is still two gpu's on one board and will be affected by scaling issues as well as obscene temps (still want one though;).

A good idea right now is to pick up a cheap 4850 or even 4870/260 and just wait for q1 09 to see what goodies ati and nvidia have in store.

Im not so sure a 9800GX2 would hold off a 4870X2 no matter what the manufacturing proccess was tbh, doesnt the 4870X2 beat down 2 9800GTX+s in SLI by quite a way?

Or assuming you jumped on the bandwagon just stick with your 8800GT/GTS, which is what im doing. Games arnt really pushing cards much further than the needs of the old G80/G92 and whilst the boost a 4870 offers is tempting, its not tempting enough for me until i get a bigger monitor.

Yup, but really because of the price of entry at launch. Now, not so much an issue (240 quid for the 280). ATI are to thank for that.

Agreed, Its an expensive chip to manufacture though so they completely bit themselfes in the arse with it! not to mention they came back into the press moaning about how false everyones successes and plans are losing them some more credability… silly Nvidia
