Larrabee excitement fizzles...falls flat

The rather slow, jerky and overall unimpressive demo apparently used an early "stepping," (See: development version) of Larrabee, which is expected to be released commercially at some point next year.

Whilst the audience desperately struggled to curb their enthusiasm at the rather clunky rendering of a scene from a 3D game, Maloney attempted to get things back on track by promising that "key developers" had in fact already received development systems, and were still working on it.

But with the first product due out by next year, doubts remain as to whether the wonderous rasterization, volumetric rendering, and ray tracing engine will be ready to go.

Still, Intel is insistent that Larrabee will one day appear as a standalone discrete graphics card, despite analyst predictions suggesting that it will simply end up being integrated into the CPU.
