Jasper Forest
Maloney also mentioned the "Jasper Forest" family of embedded processors, which should be available early next year, saying it would extend Intel's Nehalem microarchitecture to new markets.
Jasper Forest's architecture is purportedly designed for "purpose-built storage, communications, military and aerospace applications," and will also apparently offer a "new level of integration to save precious board space and power for these dense environments."
Concluding on a lighter note, Maloney also re-announced a new PC management tool using vPro technology, called Keyboard Video Mouse (KVM) Remote Control. This, according to Maloney, lets IT staff have a fiddle with faulty equipment, viewing it almost through the eyes of the user to ensure faster diagnosis, fewer irritating desk-side visits and, of course, those all important cost savings.
At the end of the day, this wasn't Maloney's best keynote, but considering he had only a week or so to recycle a typical Pat Gelsinger extravaganza, we're quite proud of our Sean for putting his best foot forward.
