Fusion might be AMD's big CES announcement, but the semiconductor manufacturer is also taking the time to refresh its mobile graphics range by launching its second-generation AMD Radeon HD 6000M series.
The top-to-bottom range, covering everything from the high-end HD 6900M to the entry-level 6300M, is DX11-capable and provides support for AMD's bevy of multimedia technologies - including Eyefinity for simplified multi-display configurations, AMD HD3D for watching stereoscopic video or converting 2D to 3D, and EyeSpeed, a new name for various hardware-acceleration capabilities.
At the top of the range, the new enthusiast-orientated AMD Radeon HD 6900M will feature a core clocked at up to 680MHz, 960 stream processors and a GDDR5 frame buffer. Providing 1.3 TeraFLOPS of processing power, the chip becomes one of AMD's fastest mobile GPUs to date and is certain to pick up numerous high-end design wins.
AMD claims its "feature-rich line" will enable "a superior visual computing experience in virtually every segment", but whilst its feature list is extensive, there's no mention (yet) of a graphics switching technology that's able to match the efficiency of NVIDIA's Optimus.
