Gigabyte is the latest PC components maker to launch a range of new motherboards made to support AM4 socketed AMD Ryzen CPUs. Five motherboards have been revealed by the popular Taiwanese PCs, components and accessories maker; two Aorus branded boards with X370 chipsets, and three Gigabyte branded boards with B350 chipsets. The firm says it will be producing motherboards with all three AMD chipsets so we should perhaps look at these early launches as simply released to match the early enthusiast interest in the AMD Ryzen 7 series of CPUs.

Before we drill down on any specifics, its worth summing up common features. First of all the boards all feature fully customizable RGB LEDs with Gigabyte RGB Fusion tech. This will allow you to control and synchronise the RGB lighting on these motherboards with other RGB Fusion devices. Smart Fan 5 offers an intuitive UI to control five headers for fans and pumps in your system. Installed PWM and standard voltage fans will work with the system and there are temperature sensors on the boards to allow you to monitor your cooling system effectiveness.

All of the boards announced support APUs, GbE LAN, dual BIOS, relatively high end audio with quality capacitors and Audio Noise Guard with LED Trace Path Lighting, fast M.2 with PCIe NVMe support, and USB 3.1 controllers. You can peruse the individual board specifications on the respective product pages as linked to below:

You can check through a detailed specs comparison table featuring all five of the Aorus and Gigabyte AM4 offerings here.

Gigabyte says its quintet of motherboards, as outlined above, will be made available from 2nd March in time for the launch of AMD Ryzen CPUs.

Time to begin the search for an enthusiast AM4 motherboard that isn't horrendously gaudy.
Scan seem to offer a board that Gigabyte don't know about - the X370 chipset gaming-K3:

So you'll be having a server board, then? ;)
I'll be more interested in seeing a cheaper X370 board without dual slots for CrossFire/SLI or a B350 board without the APU-intended DVI-D/D-SUB/DP/HDMI outputs that take up space on the back that would otherwise be used for USB or other outputs.

In other words, it feels like there's a middle-ground missing from the currently line-up. The X370 boards are catering to the highest-end enthusiasts but the B350 boards are clearly designed with future APUs in mind. I hope that companies remember the segment of gamers who simply do not intend to use two graphics cards.

In any event, I'll be waiting longer still currently until I can take the plunge, so hopefully this issue will be addressed in the coming months. (Summer would probably be ideal.)
Probably a stupid question, but why the 2x audio chips?
