Realtek's RTU7105 and Intel's UWB Link 3480 on display

Realtek and Intel will be teaming up next week as they plan to provide the "industry's first public demonstration of interoperability involving single-chip worldwide-compatible solutions" by combining the Realtek RTU7105 Wireless USB Device and the Intel Wireless UWB Link 3480 Wireless USB Host.

The demonstration will highlight interoperability in multiple WiMedia band groups that have received global regulatory approval, and will showcase several new WiMedia-based features that add flexibility to the spectrum use. Doesn't sound too exciting we know but Realtek do boast the following engineering firsts:

  • First public demonstration of Wireless USB interoperability involving single-chip solutions for both host and device
  • First interoperability demonstration involving dual-band operation, with support for WiMedia Band Groups 1 & 3, including multiple bands, WiMedia band 3 (4.224~4.752GHz) and band 9 (7.392~7.920GHz), that meet existing worldwide regulatory requirements
  • First interoperability demonstration of WiMedia-based modes from the WiMedia PHY 1.1 Spectrum Extensions Release, designed to enhance flexibility of spectrum use

Senior vice president of Realtek, Ran Yan says “We are extremely pleased to collaborate with Intel in this demonstration. We anticipate that the debut of Intel’s single-chip Wireless USB Host solution will be seen as the signal that the market for this technology is about to take off. Realtek is ready to bring an optimised and ultra-compact device solution into all Wireless USB peripherals.”

Wireless USB is sure to follow on the huge success of USB and we expect this demonstration to be the first of many.

I am looking forward to all this WUSB and WHDMI stuff which should be floating around - should be good to see and have a play with.

I'm personally sick of cables so anything which can make life easier works for me :) Esp when long term it means you could have this all embedded to your device rather than using a wireless ‘dongle’
I already use wi-fi around the house and it's rather fab. The more wireless stuff the better I say. :)
heh most of us use wi-fi ;)
I dunno, I know lots of people who don't trust wi-fi yet. Some people sure do love their wires. It's usually games mind you, they need that extra millisecond to ensure that first bullet hits where they aim…

I think I do just fine with wifi and a standard mouse in fps's
don't forget some people think wifi will give you brain tumours and such like they think the same with mobile phones.
