MSI has today announced a pair of new PC gaming peripherals. Both have the all-caps GAMING designation, and both come with MSI Gaming Software integration for control and customisation, plus MSI's RGB Mystic Light frills.

MSI Clutch GM50 GAMING mouse

The MSI Clutch GM50 GAMING mouse is designed with a light weight body (87g) to facilitate speedy movements in FPS and action games. Its right handed design looks rather traditional and sports six buttons, with the main left/right buttons backed by Omron switch technology for precise actuation and durability. Inside the mouse you will find MSI has used the Pixart PMW 3330 optical sensor which is said to offer enhanced accuracy and a max DPI of 7200 (plus 5 other settings from 400DPI upwards).

MSI encourages Clutch GM50 owners to customise the lighting built-into the mouse. The device uses MSI Mystic Light tech and thus can sync with other compatible components and be configured using the accompanying software. MSI says there are over 200 effect combinations available from the mouse and there are three RGB lighting zones; mouse palm rear, logo area, and scroll wheel area. This and other settings can be tweaked and changed using the MSI Gaming Centre software.

The Clutch GM50 measures 120 x 67 x 42 mm, weighs 87g without cable, and the provided TPE cable with gold-plated USB 2.0 connector is 2m long.

MSI Vigor GK60 GAMING keyboard

This latest mechanical keyboard from MSI includes the premium 'essentials' of such a product. MSI Vigor GK60 GAMING keyboard features include; a durable aluminium frame, a rigid non-slip 'gaming base' construction, Cherry MX Red linear quiet keyswitches (no other options shown), various media hotkeys, and MSI's RGB Mystic Light compatibility.

You can see that MSI has pre-configured "unique metal keycaps," for a tactile anchor on the popular WASD PC gaming movement keys (regular alternatives are provided, plus a key-puller). A feature I like is that the LEDs can be controlled and configured without installing any control software - however more adjustments can be made if you do install the RGB Mystic Light software. Further configuration options come via MSI Gaming Centre software.

MSI promises "clever cable management" for a tangle-free desk space and other cables can be stored under the keyboard (headphones for example). Gamers can activate the commonly seen N-Key rollover feature and Windows key lock for smooth gaming experiences. This keyboard measures 440 x 134 x 42mm, and weighs 1050g. The captive cable is 2m long. No USB pass-through is available.

Pricing for the above PC input accessories is yet to be shared. MSI expects retailers to start stocking these products very shortly (early November) but availability will depend upon your region.

Why the name “clutch”? Have I missed where there's a clutch in this mouse? My mouse has a clutch in it in the scroll wheel. I don't see the relevance of the name.

A clutch in gaming (and other sports?) is when you are the last one on your team and you try to win the round (and other game critical situations).

Not to be confused with the car part :P

Because you clutch it desperately during intense gaming moments…?

Or it's a type of handbag if that's your thing.
