Western Digital Corporation has launched a pair of powerful new storage solutions. Aimed at professional content creators who need lightning-fast transfer speed and high-capacity storage - with mobility - WD has created the G-Speed Shuttle with Thunderbolt 3 and the G-Speed Shuttle with ev Series Bay Adapters.
G-Speed Shuttle with Thunderbolt 3
This 4-bay storage solution is offered in capacities as high as 48TB. WD equips it with removable 7200RPM enterprise class drives which can be set up in hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 configurations. With dual Thunderbolt 3 ports the storage solution fits in well in many modern content creation workflows - for 4K and 8K content and similar. As an example of the performance WD says that a professional can transfer one hour of 4K footage at 30 frames per second (fps) in just minutes at up to 1,000MB/s.
Scott Vouri, vice president strategy and business development, G-Technology, Western Digital, reckons a great practical application of the G-Speed Shuttle with Thunderbolt 3 will be in the easy transport of footage. "One of the biggest pain points facing film makers is not having the ability to move the massive amounts of footage quickly and reliably to the next stage of the workflow – both physically and virtually." said Vouri, in an email to HEXUS. "If you're looking for a fast, high-capacity solution that’s also easily transportable, your options are limited. The G-Speed Shuttle with Thunderbolt 3 is available in the U.S. now in 16TB ($1,799.95), 24TB ($2,299.95), 32TB ($2,799.95) and 48TB ($3,799.95).
G-Speed Shuttle with ev Series Bay Adapters
This is a very similar storage solution to the above but with the added flexibility afforded by the integrated ev Series bay adapters. WD says that this model’s integrated ev Series bay adapters improve workflow options and productivity by enabling cross-functionality with all ev Series drives and readers. These adapters facilitate auto-offload or backup of various memory cards, caddy storage, Firewire devices, and so on.
G-Speed Shuttle with ev Series Bay Adapters solutions are said to offer up to 500MB/s transfer speeds. You can buy this device in 20TB ($1,999.95) and 24TB ($2,299.95) capacities.
