Data Robotics has today unveiled its long-awaited network-attached storage solution in the form of the Drobo FS.
The device, pictured below, resembles the existing five-bay Drobo S but introduces a key new feature; network file sharing via a single Gigabit Ethernet port.
Designed to deliver what Data Robotics deems "the best file sharing experience ever", the Drobo FS retains all the functionality of the Drobo S and attempts to simplify network-attached storage for home, office or small business users.
The unit's five 3.5in SATA II drive bays currently allow for up to 10TB of storage, and as with other Drobo solutions, the Drobo FS makes use of BeyondRAID functionality - a tool designed to simplify RAID configurations by automating the majority of the process and protecting against up to two drive failures.
Measuring roughly 150mm x 185mm x 262mm, the smart-looking device offers support for the Common Internet File System (CIFS) and Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), ensuring compatibility with either Windows, Mac or Linux clients.
As you'd expect, there's also support for DroboApps - including the likes of iTunes media server FireFly, BitTorrent client CTorrent and DLNA server Fuppes.
Sounds mighty promising and the official Drobo store has the barebones Drobo FS available priced at around £550, whilst a 10TB model - equipped with five 2TB hard drives - will set you back £1,138.
