Conclusion

...at £55, the non-RGB K500L could well prove popular among end users and system integrators...

Cooler Master has plenty of high-end cases in its arsenal, but the manufacturer understands the importance of bringing traditionally premium features to lower price points.

That's the idea behind the MasterBox K500, a £75 gaming case that touts a large tempered glass panel, a tidy PSU shroud and RGB lighting that's compatible with all major motherboard manufacturers.

Build quality is decent and the profile is reasonably petite for a mid-tower, but there are a few shortcomings that detract from the overall package. The Molex-powered front fans are far too noisy for our liking, it's a shame the cable holes aren't lined with rubber grommets, and that plasticky front fascia is going to divide audiences.

Bottom line: the K500 doesn't quite do enough to justify the £75 price tag, but at £55, the non-RGB K500L could well prove popular among end users and system integrators seeking a case that's modern and easy to work with.

The Good

The Bad
Large tempered glass window
RGB lighting, if that's your thing
Quick and easy to build into
Three bundled fans

Noisy, Molex-powered fans
Front fascia is an acquired taste
No rubber grommets on cable holes
Not enough room for a top radiator

Another same-again black box with a side window, a big plastic moulding on the front and coloured lights.
Tempered glass and RGB to appeal to the gamers (I.E. all the bling)? Check!

A nice looking case that is practical to work with and can comfortably house anything you would wish to throw in it whilst being cool and quiet (I.E. all the important stuff)?

Massive fail.
Looks a right dust trap
Priorities all messed up.
Basic control for RGB, but not for fan speed and so they run at full tilt.
