Thoughts

By decoupling the cooling hardware from your PSU as its power source, recharging and retuning the compressor for improved cooling performance and using the ChillControl and mounting hardware that the LS pioneered, Asetek have created a compelling product for those enthusiasts looking for performance well ahead of what air cooling can buy you.

You simply cannot cool Prescott to 4.7GHz on air in silence. You simply cannot run Athlon FX at 3GHz on air unless you're very very lucky or your computer room is very cold (there's admittedly good air-cooling headroom in AMD's latest FX-55s). You need advanced cooling to do so and the VapoChill XE-II swaggers around offering it to all and sundry.

I have issues with the case, but as far as cooling prowess, ease of fitment and use and levels of noise go, I can't complain.

If you want the ability to run your CPU well above its rated speed, in relative peace and quiet, and you have around £500 to drop on cooling that'll last you for some years to come, Asetek have something for you to spend your money on.

Recommended yet again for the enthusiast with deep pockets. If vastness of wallet is something you possess, don't be scared of phase-change. It's close to being child's play. 3GHz Athlon FX is rather nice...

Pros

It makes your CPU go wheeeeeeeeeeeee!
Quiet while it does so
Very easy to fit
Doesn't put a load on your PSU like before

Cons

They need to engineer a new chassis, the current one needs an overhaul
Not cheap (but the people interested always find the money)

Thanks

Asetek for the sample
