Conclusion

Factory overclocked right out of the box, the Gaming 3G card goes like the clappers, runs cool at all times and, unlike many high-end alternatives, does so while keeping noise output down to a comfortable level.

Taking into account performance, presentation, cooling capability and acoustics, MSI's GeForce GTX 780 Ti Gaming 3G is in our estimation one of the best interpretations of Nvidia's hard-hitting GPU.

This is a graphics card that enthusiast gamers should have on their radar, yet the 780 Ti proposition isn't as formidable as it once was. The emergence of affordable 4K monitors has moved the goal posts, and while MSI's card does have the vigour to game at such lofty resolutions, it won't deliver the desired 60 frames per second without sacrificing quality settings.

The PC gaming market doesn't stand still, and while the latest games consoles are competing at a paltry 1080p, we're already lamenting the fact that we've yet to see a single-GPU solution that truly excels at ultra-high-res 4K gaming. MSI's GTX 780 Ti Gaming 3G comes close, and it has the beating of Radeon R9 290X, but we may have to wait for a next-generation derivative for perfectly-smooth, high-quality 4K gaming from a single-chip card.

The Good

One of the fastest GPUs money can buy
Factory overclocked on core
Has high-res gaming potential
Keeps cool and quiet under load
Free copy of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

The Bad

You'll get no change from £500
Will struggle to hit 60fps at high-quality 4K

No-mans land. The 290X has been out for nearly a year already, and the gtx 880 is due in September.
Didn't know a single card was even capable of 4k/30fps at the moment. Pleasantly surprised.
Is there really any point if going for a 7 series card with the 8 series pretty much just around the corner?

..only if they are heavily discounted, otherwise wait.

I for one was going to buy a 2nd 760 to run in Sli, because that would be about the limit for my 650w PSU, but with the lower TDP of the 8xx cards, I'm now waiting until October to buy a 4GB 870 and will buy a second in November.
You can see the discounting already. £349 for a DCU2 290x today.
