Conclusion

Anyone interested in a premium gaming PC would be better advised to go for the GTX 1070 over its bigger brother and then repurpose the savings elsewhere....

If budget is no concern, the GeForce GTX 1080 is the best gaming card on the market, no question. Trouble is, budget is very much a concern, particularly with the events occurring in the last week, so spending in excess of £600 for a quality AIC-produced card is a serious decision. Yet giving up 20 per cent performance brings the GTX 1070 into view; a card also with the Pascal architecture underpinning.

MSI brings the same design and flair mojo to the second-rung Pascal. Taking everything that we thought was good about the GTX 1080 version - build and quietness, mostly - opting for the GTX 1070 Gaming X shaves a considerable £200 off the asking price.

£420 is hardly cheap, granted, but the status quo in the market means it is hard to do better than this model. Palit offers more out-of-the-box performance availed by a bigger heatsink design but has a shorter warranty, so you pays your money and takes your choice.

Anyone interested in a premium gaming PC would be better advised to go for the GTX 1070 over its bigger brother and then repurpose the savings elsewhere. Should that advice ring true with you, the MSI GeForce GTX Gaming 1070X is recommended.

The Good

The Bad
Beautiful build quality
Dual-slot form factor
Fans turn off at idle
Very, very quiet under load
Three-year warranty

No faster than GTX 980 Ti

MSI ensures that power delivery won't be a problem by adding both six- and eight-pin PCIe connectors for an improbable 375W

75W (PCIe slot) + 75W (6 pin) + 150W (8 pin) =/= 375W ;)

Of course, there's no guarantee that the card sticks to PCie specs, but if it does the maximum power it can draw would be 300W.
Personally the fact “No faster than GTX 980 Ti” assures this will not be considered for the next PC. It's 1080 brother does look fantastic though, albeit over £700 @ Scan.
Sooooo…we're just not gonna get those cheaper non-founders day cards like promised ?

Would imagine GBP crash against the dollar in the last couple of weeks has put the kybosh on that. At today's exchange rate, an $850 card comes out at £640, two weeks ago it would have been £590 :/
980Ti is still looking good. Of cause, if this does eventually drop to the standard 70-series pricing it will be a must have.
