Conclusion

...we come away with the feeling that the G1.Sniper represents a solid addition to Gigabyte's AMD-supporting fold.

Gigabyte has taken the FM2+-compatible A88X chipset and built a board that extracts as much out of it as we're likely to see. It seems like an odd decision to design what at first glance appears to be a gamer-focussed motherboard for mainstream APUs, yet Gigabyte's asking price of £75 for the G1.Sniper is competitive against regular A88Xs from the likes of Asus and ASRock.

But calling this a true Sniper is somewhat disingenuous by Gigabyte - it's a mainstream board that does most things well. We come away with the feeling that the G1.Sniper represents a solid addition to Gigabyte's AMD-supporting fold. It doesn't stand out in any particular way other than the attention paid to the pre-amplifier for the audio, so if you're in the market for a no-nonsense A88X chipset-based motherboard, it would be wrong not to at least consider this model.

The Good

Good layout
Simple, intuitive BIOS
Attractive price

The Bad

Not in usual G1.Sniper mould

Tell the truth Tarinder, put a 290x on this board with Mantle and then watch as it changes into a monster of a gaming board/system, one that makes spending twice the price on a Intel 4770k, the memory and a Z87 Sniper board a waste of money, lets face it, a 7850k and this board will perform cpu wise good enough for 90% of people out there, its the GPU performance that we want and you can have it with this lot and its not going to cost the earth. When software arrives that can utilise the hUMA side that will increase CPU performance as well, will you finally see what's happening, or will you still be stuck in a trench for eternity.
The Rome 2 benchmark is a bit unfortunate for the 7850K, beaten by the 6800K by a significant margin.
fyi. that gold usb2 port? is specifically for usb headsets and is isolated from the other parts of the board for better sound/less interference.
