Conclusion

Asus believes that an additional premium is warranted if the board hits a particular niche. That is the line of thinking associated with the Z170S Sabertooth...

Let's bypass the elephant in the room by saying that anyone who is after the features inherent in the Z170 chipset may as well look for a £100 board that also adds in USB 3.1 and, for the most part, a decent BIOS.

The question then presents itself as to why someone would want to pay more. Asus believes that an additional premium is warranted if the board hits a particular niche. That is the line of thinking associated with the Z170S Sabertooth, whose claim to fame is a better warranty, tough-as-nails construction, and a particular digital camo look that's much like Marmite.

Enhanced cooling, a robust set of Windows utilities and excellent stability at the bleeding-edge of our components means we can see the appeal of this latest Sabertooth, more-so now that Asus makes the overall fee more agreeable by eschewing some of the more esoteric features available on previous-generation boards.

Want a high-quality Skylake board that looks unique and is built like a tank? The Z170S Sabertooth is a fine contender.

If appearance matters then this would look great inside an all white case and maybe a Seasonic Snow PSU.
There's a fan on the motherboard ?
Think I'll pass.

There's been an option for a fan on most if not all Sabertooth boards. Where have you been hiding?
Yup the fan is the only off-put for me. Not used a mobo with a fan since back in the Athlon XP days where the south bridge had a fan. Worked fine for 2 years then died a death.
Easy enough to get a fan a screw it on as a replacement and work fine after that till I replaced the board (fan still working even then) but the chance of it failing is enough to put me off :(
You saw *optional*, right?
