Conclusion

...the ProLite XUB3493WQSU is a capable all-rounder that won't break the bank.

For fans of an ultrawide form factor, it is easy to appreciate the iiyama ProLite XUB3493WQSU.

At a cost of under £350, this 34in IPS solution proffers a flat 3,440x1,440 canvas that is ideal for productivity, and with FreeSync/G-Sync compatibility at up to 75Hz, it is adept at serving up silky-smooth gaming.

There are weaknesses, as it to be expected, and they include basic HDR credentials, below-average out-the-box colour accuracy, and limited contrast. Neither of these should be considered a deal-breaker for everyday use and casual gaming, however the amount of backlight bleed on our review unit is somewhat off-putting. The severity of bleed will no doubt vary from one sample to the next, and others may get lucky, but once you're aware of the unwanted glow, it can be hard to ignore.

Still, you can't have everything at this price point, and for those who have been waiting to upgrade to a good-sized ultrawide monitor, the ProLite XUB3493WQSU is a capable all-rounder that won't break the bank.

Why is IPS and freesync a con?

Personal preferences.

IPS - I'm really not a fan of backlight bleed at the minute, as a lot of what I'm watching and playing has great big black bits, where the bleed really shows…
Freesync - Doesn't have Low Framerate Compensation and can sometimes misbehave over HDMI. I'm using Nvidia anyway, so perhaps a moot point.

Mostly just some weighing up elements to qualify my opinion.

If it wasn't Freesync, then it would be old school fixed sync, and that has to be worse doesn't it? I mean, you aren't going to get actual G sync on a monitor like this, only on one way more expensive.
