Conclusion

...a 28.2in 4K+ IPS panel whose 3,840x2,560 resolution literally heightens productivity.

The Huawei MateView is an ambitious display that succeeds in bringing the goodness of a 3:2 aspect ratio to desktop PCs.

Driving the experience is a 28.2in 4K+ IPS panel whose 3,840x2,560 resolution literally heightens productivity. Bright, crisp image quality is bolstered through impressive colour coverage and out-the-box colour accuracy, and the form factor is undoubtedly beneficial to both work and everyday browsing.

Huawei's sleek implementation is similarly easy on the eye, yet some of design points work better than others. Front-facing speakers, tidy cabling, and a 65W USB-C port all get our approval, however the Smart Bar control interface takes some getting used to, while wireless projection did not work at all well in practise.

Bottom line: ever wished Microsoft sold a standalone Surface Studio monitor? Huawei's MateView is the next best thing and comes highly recommended to those who appreciate the benefits of 3:2.

65W USB-C docking comes in handy

Wireless projection is laggy

Gets warm at full brightness

Looks loverly,
….always thought it was a con going from the old 4;3 aspect ration to widescreen
Does look good. Shame the panel seems to be a bit all over the place in terms of uniformity for brightness and colour.

Side note…. are those Corsair wave panels any good?
400 quid is a very solid price, 600 for a 60hz 4K panel is too much. Although people needing a productivity focused display will always pay a bit more if it means improving work.

I paid £700 for my dell 32" 4K panel, and that's their cheap one. High quality panels cost money - £600 for this is just fine for the market it's targeted at. My main issue is the design means no VESA so it can't be mounted on an arm so having multiple takes up a lot of desk, here's hoping somebody else picks up the panel too.

EDIT: eeek, Dell U3219Q is now £850, guess I got a good deal at the time.
As someone with less than perfect eyesight, such a high resolution, at this size, is pointless. Makes more sense to pay less for a lower res screen, that I can use without scaling. However, I certainly support the move to a taller aspect ration than 16x9.
