Conclusion
The Philips Moda 2 is priced at £280 for the 27in model and £190 for the 23.6in model with availability in late-February 2015. The ballpark region for a 27in IPS full HD monitor is currently £200 so the design tweaks and Bluetooth speaker incur a significant premium over rival products. Furthermore, there are numerous 1440p monitors available in the same price bracket as the Philips Moda 2, albeit without the same level of audio functionality.
The Moda 2 is a good-quality IPS monitor that delivers expected levels of performance and image quality in addition to wide viewing angles and modest power consumption. On the other hand those features are not unique to the Moda 2, because they are common among most IPS panels, and the main selling point, an integrated Bluetooth speaker, will pique the interest of a narrow audience.
The Philips Moda 2 outlines a novel idea of mobile device integration with a desktop-sized display through MHL and Bluetooth to cover display and audio data streams, respectively. The lack of a wireless display feature, which would arguably deliver complete integration, makes the price premium hard to justify since many rival products of a similar size and resolution offer MHL compatibility.
