Conclusion
...the iiyama ProLite XUB3490WQSU plies this non-curved, super-widescreen arena well.In many ways a super-widescreen monitor is a perfect fit for a modern PC. Masses of real estate is a definite boon for productivity, with content professionals able to put documents and programs side by side for easy viewing. The 21:9 aspect ratio also lends itself well to movies and, when done properly, for gaming thrills and spills.
Even with these positive attributes the 3,440x1,440-pixel monitors have never really taken off, supplanted by a wave of newer, cheaper 4K displays whose pixel pitch is tighter but pixel count too high for all but the meatiest of graphics subsystems. Spending time with a 34in super-widescreen may make you think differently.
The iiyama ProLite XUB3490WQSU plies this non-curved, super-widescreen arena well. Excellent uniformity and good colour coverage is enhanced by a quality AH-IPS panel. Colour accuracy, though, isn't ideal, and the lack of sales volume means the £480 asking price is steep. We'd steer gamers towards an adaptive sync monitor, but if your first port of call is productivity more than gaming, we'd take one of these over an el-cheapo 4K screen any day of the week.
The Good The Bad Great resolution
Excellent uniformity
Ideal for productivity
Good for most games
Colour accuracy not great
