Conclusion

...it makes a modicum of sense if you want the very last ounce of performance out of the system.

Memory manufacturers are hoping Intel's Skylake platform gives DDR4 a much-needed shot in the arm from this month onwards.

Most have taken the Skylake opportunity to release a number of new kits for the fledgling platform that are equipped with XMP 2.0 settings for easy-as-pie configuration.

Skylake's integrated memory controller appears to offer more scope for running faster DDR4 RAM than the initial X99 platform, with 3,600MHz kits readily available.

Corsair believes there's only a small price premium to pay for using 3,000MHz-plus kits instead of JEDEC 2,133MHz, and a case in point is the 16GB LPX 3,200 CL16 kit reviewed today.

Offering four modules and performance that's a few per cent better than basic DDR4 on a Core i7-6700K, it makes a modicum of sense if you want the very last ounce of performance out of the system.

We'd still like to see the price drop closer to £100 before making an outright recommendation, and would prefer two larger-capacity modules instead of four, but anyone considering Skylake should be looking at fast RAM as standard.

The Good

The Bad
Excellent build quality
Works flawlessly at 3,200MHz
Available in multiple colours

Small gains in performance
Limited overclocking headroom
Would prefer 2x8GB sticks

The Good: Works flawlessly at 3,200MHz .. Excellent build quality .. Available in multiple colours

The Good: It works .. It'll keep working .. If gazing at your motherboard is your thing then you're sorted .. Er, that's basically it.
The sell Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 for around £100 now - I'd rather go for this option as it allows for future expansion more easily - Do you think there will be a performance difference between 2 sticks vs the 4 though?
