Conclusion

Our numbers show it to be to 2x faster than some recent competition, corroborating OCZ's claims, so it's definitely worth considering if you want consistent performance after hammering the drive..

The Vertex 460 SSD is the first drive out of the Toshiba-owned OCZ stable. It takes the flash controller from the Vertex 450 and the NAND from the Vector 150 to create a drive that scores well in both performance and value.

What's more impressive than the straight-line speed is performance when in a used, degraded state. Our numbers show it to be to 2x faster than some recent competition, corroborating OCZ's claims, so it's definitely worth considering if you want consistent performance after hammering the drive.

We'd ideally like the endurance to be increased and the warranty extended: OCZ's Vector 150 is that drive and it only carries a small premium over this £120 Vertex 460.

Bottom line: a solid drive that has no obvious weakness, the OCZ Vertex 460 is a capable performer under all conditions.

The Good

Solid performance in all conditions
Especially good in a used state
Fast and consistent
Includes Acronis software

The Bad

Vector 150 is very close in price

Surprised they haven't dropped the tarnished OCZ name and kept them with Toshiba branding.
Great, thx for this review!
Confused, how did you come to the conclusion it is a reliable drive? I dont think you can come to that conclusion in such a short space of time.

Not sure about this to be honest it seems rather average :P.

Maybe because the biggest reliability factor (will OCZ go bankrupt?) has been taken away. I mean, no matter how badly OCZ perform from now on, it must be very unlikely that they could bankrupt Toshiba
.
Still, I would not buy one unless there was some kind of indemnity bound…
Reliable in the sense that it has reliable performance once in a dirty state. Perhaps I should make this clearer.

For the price, it does better than average in the Iometer and expanded storage tests, beating out the MX100 by a very healthy degree.
