New screen technology
Moving on, it looks like Qualcomm hasn't yet given up on the UMPC form factor, with this effort from C-Motech on show.
The technology that caught our eye the most, however, was Qualcomm's Mirasol displays. These use interferometric modulation technology, which is apparently a simple micro-electrical-mechanical system. In English, the display relies heavily on the reflection of ambient light, which dramatically cuts down on its power requirements.
The technology was apparently inspired by butterfly wings and, as well as enabling colour e-readers that can double as gaming devices like the one shown here, could be very significant for all future mobile Internet devices, with the screen being one of the major drains on battery life.
But Qualcomm doesn't want to stop at displays. On the software and services side it was showing off technology for measuring your heart-rate with your phone and relaying it to your doctor...
...and there was a media sharing cloud service called Skifta, that runs on Amazon web services and is designed to allow you to share media between any DLNA certified device.
On top of all this, we heard about Qualcomm's plans to become a key player in e-commerce on mobile devices via a product called Plaza and how it thinks it can make finding the mobile apps you want easier via its Xiam service.
