Kids in the UK spend an average of just under 2 hours surfing the web every day, according to a new poll.
A survey of 2,445 children between the ages of 5 and 16 by Child Wise, found children in the UK spend 1 hour and 50 minutes online every day, supplementing the average of 2 and a hour hours of TV they watch on a daily basis, the BBC reported.
The poll also reportedly found that almost two thirds of children have their own computer and around half have internet access in their bedroom. Furthermore, two thirds of children apparently go online ‘most days', spending a collective 13 million hours on the internet every day.
Child Wise reportedly said that children are increasingly using smartphones and games consoles to go online, with 70 percent of kids between the aged of 5 and 16 having their own phone. The figure reportedly rises to 97 percent from age 11, with almost two in three tweens/teens able to access the net on their phone.
Perhaps given the proliferation of social networking sites and the time adults spend on them, the survey also apparently found that a third of 7-10 year olds visited Facebook in the week the survey was conducted, with the percentage rising to 71 percent for 11 and 12 year olds and 85 percent for 13-16 year olds.
However, much like previous generations, today's kids arguably spend ‘too much' time in front of the telly and Child Wise's figures reportedly suggest that 12 million under 16s watch a staggering collective 23 million hours of TV every day, with just under two thirds of children in their age group having a TV in their bedroom.
Apparently 4 in 5 kids watch TV On Demand, with around half viewing BBC iPlayer and just over a third of children aged 7 to 10 tuning in to CBBC iPlayer.
