Geeky greatness
James Bond's favourite sports car has been named the UK's coolest brand in a latest poll, with almost half of the top 20 coolest products being techie or online offerings.
While the CoolBrands award may sound a little fanciful, 500 brands are chosen by an expert council and the British public each year viaYouGov. The council, which is made up of ‘cool' media types, designers, musicians, DJs and so on have a 70 percent say in the final list, while the British public forms the remaining 30 percent, with the top 500 brands awarded CoolBrand status.
In order to be cool, the brand must display: style, innovation, originality, authenticity, desirability and uniqueness. Apple scooped two out of the top 3 overall postions in the CoolBrands table, while geeks triumphed in the chart as a whole, as tech and online firms secured 9 spots in the top 20, beating fashion designers who together notched up 5 places.
