Geeky greatness

James Bond's favourite sports car has been named the UK's coolest brand in a latest poll, with almost half of the top 20 coolest products being techie or online offerings.

While the CoolBrands award may sound a little fanciful, 500 brands are chosen by an expert council and the British public each year viaYouGov. The council, which is made up of ‘cool' media types, designers, musicians, DJs and so on have a 70 percent say in the final list, while the British public forms the remaining 30 percent, with the top 500 brands awarded CoolBrand status.

In order to be cool, the brand must display: style, innovation, originality, authenticity, desirability and uniqueness. Apple scooped two out of the top 3 overall postions in the CoolBrands table, while geeks triumphed in the chart as a whole, as tech and online firms secured 9 spots in the top 20, beating fashion designers who together notched up 5 places.

Without further ado, here is the top 20 CoolBrands 2010/11:

  1. Aston Martin
  2. iPhone
  3. iPod
  4. BlackBerry
  5. Bang & Olufsen
  6. Harley Davidson
  7. Nintendo Wii
  8. Google
  9. Ferrari
  10. Dom Perignon
  11. BBC iPlayer
  12. Vivienne Westwood
  13. Apple
  14. Tate Modern
  15. YouTube
  16. Mini
  17. Chanel
  18. Ray-Ban
  19. Alexander McQueen
  20. Jimmy Choo

And in case you want more stats, Skype topped the coolest mobile telecommunications category and Google the online chart. Apple scooped a double win, coming out top in the technology general and technology telecommunications categories.

I'd take a guess that the majority of people who took this survey were women

Funny I thought the same! :p. Women and/or stupid! Since when has the Tate Modern been ‘cool’. It shows nothing but modern crap (literally) that is showcased as the next big art piece before being brushed up by the on site cleaners, mistaking it for…rubbish! :shocked2:
If most of that list is “cool” I'm happy being an uncool geek, thanks.:shocked2:
The iPhone is not a UK brand.
Mini? Really?

OK, the old one is exceptionally ‘cool’ but if they're referring to the modern brand then WTF have they been smoking.

I saw a convertible mini today and ducked so there was less chance I'd be seen in same immediate area.
