Virgin Media has wrapped up a deal with NBC Universal International Television distribution for the video-on-demand (VoD) rights in the UK to some of its biggest US shows.

From 1 December Virgin Media customers will be able to access past seasons of shows including: House, Heroes, The Office US and 30 Rock in HD though the 'On Demand' TV service or via Virgin's online and mobile ‘Virgin Media Player'.

Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media said: "We're delighted to bring our customers these great shows in HD from NBC Universal. With more and more consumers enjoying the flexibility of watching TV whenever they want, our new online and mobile services also give our customers a fantastic way to enjoy content wherever they are."

Meanwhile, rumours are doing the rounds that Virgin will launch its 100Mbs broadband service this week, after the PM, David Cameron let slip about the super-speedy offering in his speech on 'new economic dynamism' at the CBI.

According to Tech Radar, Cameron said:  "We'll work with utility companies to get more investment in our energy, with construction companies on our roads, with the telecommunications industry on broadband. This collaboration is already working. Virgin Media is rolling out a new superfast broadband service this week."

HBO shows are always better. True blood, Sopranos, The Wire, Generation Kill, Band of Brothers etc etc.
Hmm this is getting interesting, Sky will bring out a new channel in 2011 called Sky Atlantic featuring pretty much all of HBO current major series. Now will Sky have the “common sense” to make these HBO series' past seasons available through their recently launched VoD Anytime+ service - or is that too much “common sense” :juggle:

So is that Cameron trying to take credit for the XXL (?) service? If so, then he's a chancing b'stard because they announced that at the beginning of the year. :p

Not that I'll be in line for it - thanks to the rises in the costs of everything I'm scrimping to afford my current 10Mb/s service. :censored

Like the NBC deal though - when it comes to channel/content availability, then as far as I'm concerned the more the merrier. :D
(Apologies to any for the rant in the first line - I just despise the current government)
