Virgin will reportedly launch a daily magazine exclusively on Apple's iPad which will be unveiled next week.

Richard Branson's announcement comes in the same week as Rupert Murdoch revealed he is launching a daily newspaper on the popular tablet, called The Daily.

While comparisons between the two publications are obvious- they are both daily publications only available on the iPad- Virgin's magazine will have a different focus, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Branson's project which does not currently have a known name, will be headed up by his daughter, Hollie and Anthony Noguera who has previously captained Zoo, FHM and Arena, perhaps hinting at a more tabloidly style of news.

The magazine will reportedly focus on entertainment and culture rather than serious current affairs like ‘The Daily' and Branson is said to have dubbed it a ‘revolutionary multimedia' publication.

If the magazine was to feature clips it would no doubt tie-in rather nicely with Virgin's VoD service and indeed its record label too.

Murdoch's project has reportedly set him back around $30m so far and the daily ‘paper' is expected to launch next year, costing around 99 cents per day, being US focused.

The move seems to echo Murdoch's aim to make sure readers pay for content after putting paywalls around The Times newspaper website in the UK earlier this year.
