Virgin Media reveals its 2011 phone collection

Virtual network operator Virgin Media has unveiled its new handset line-up for the New Year, and the tariffs don't look bad.

Most noteworthy is its decision to jump on the Windows Phone 7 bandwagon in the form of the Samsung Omnia 7. This will be made available for ‘free' for £35 per month on a two year contract. You can what else that outlay gets you in our summary table below.

A couple of new Android phones have been added, covering different market segments. The HTC Desire HD is the high-end successor to the Desire, and it also comes in at £35 per month. Meanwhile the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, which we recently reviewed, is an entry-level Android phone that VM is offering for a competitive £10 per month with data. Take note O2.

RIM's latest smartphone, the BlackBerry Torch, also comes in at £35 per month, while the Bold 9780 will cost you £25 per month. The other additions are from Nokia: the C7 at £25 per month and the C3-01 for £10 per month.

"Customers are demanding more and more from their mobile experience especially when they're browsing the web," said Chris Barrow, head of commercial for mobile at Virgin Media. "Whether it's access to apps and games, video content, music, social networks or the latest news, they want a fast device that will allow them to do all these things simultaneously and we've got a fantastic line-up for 2011 including Android, Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry to make it all happen."
