PRESS RELEASE

  • F-Secure SAFE provides parental controls, anti-virus and browsing protection
  • Award-winning, cloud-based software covers up to five devices

Ahead of the launch of its new whole-home security solution, Virgin Media has partnered with F-Secure to update its device-level software. Available to all new and existing Virgin Media broadband customers, F-Secure SAFE provides browsing protection and parental controls for up to five devices, such as PCs, laptops, Macs, smartphones or tablets.

The award-winning1, cloud-based software replaces Virgin Media's existing Virgin Media Security software to help guard against harmful applications, viruses and other malware with its antivirus and browsing protection, enabling customers to browse, bank and shop online safely.

A range of high-quality, device-level parental controls and SMS/MMS blocking tools help parents restrict access to material they consider unsuitable online and can even protect against unwanted calls or texts on mobiles.

Simple to install and set up, customers can use F-Secure SAFE to define what websites their children are able to view, block access to individual sites and set up PIN-protected profiles so different users are able to access content suitable for them. The controls also allow users to tailor web access at certain times of the day - for example, preventing access to social networking sites during homework times.

Offering the same protection outside the home, customers can connect their mobiles, laptops and tablets to any public networks reassured that they will be protected from online threats wherever they are. If a mobile is lost or stolen, customers can remotely locate, lock and wipe data from it just by sending a text from another device.

F-Secure SAFE uses DeepGuard 5, a comprehensive, behaviour-based analysis technology, to block new and emerging threats and detect exploit attempts without needing to know the technical vulnerability they are attempting to take advantage of.

Joe Lathan, director of broadband at Virgin Media, commented, "F-Secure SAFE will help keep our customers safe online, enabling them to choose the level of protection that's right for them. We're going to be working closely with F-Secure to ensure all our customers understand the best ways to stay safe online and, alongside our forthcoming whole-home solution, we're providing all the tools and helping our customers make the right choices for them and their household."

"This partnership is the best of both worlds for Virgin Media's customers," added Allen Scott, managing director of F-Secure UK and Ireland. "They will receive award-winning security products from their trusted broadband provider, knowing it is supplied by a security specialist with 25 years' experience in protecting people's digital lives on any device, anywhere."

In addition to upgrading its device-level security software with F-Secure SAFE, Virgin Media is developing its forthcoming new whole-home solution that will help protect any devices that connect to customers' home broadband and safeguard them against online threats.

Pricing and availability:

F-Secure SAFE is worth £79.99 but is available to Virgin Media customers with any broadband subscription free for a year. After the first year, F-Secure SAFE can be added to a customer's package for just £7.50 per quarter or for a £25 one-off payment for the whole year - a saving of at least £50 per year.
