Small, sexy and powerful
What use is a HD camcorder if you can't slip it into a pocket and lose it easily? Well, now there's a $900 solution, the Sony HDR-TG1.
Pictured below, the HDR-TG1 is according to Sony, the world's smallest full-HD camcorder. Its titanium body measures just 1.3in x 4.7in x 2.5in, and weighs a touch under 10 ounces - ideal for those who want to "travel light," Sony says.
Unfortunately, and true to Sony's nature, the camcorder utilises Sony's own Memory Stick format, supporting Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo or PRO Duo Mark2 memory cards. A 4GB PRO duo Mark2 is thankfully shipped with the camcorder.
In addition to its 1920x1080 HD video recordings, the HDR-TG1 can capture 4MP digital photos. Its even got a special hard coating that Sony says will make it "highly resistant to scratches and quite fashionable" - not very, just quite.
Other key features include face detection, capable of identifying up to eight faces, a high quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 10x optical zoom lens and a 2MP ClearVid CMOS sensor.
If it takes your fancy, the HDR-TG1 will be launching in the US in May at a cost of around $900 and pre-orders will be available on sonystyle.com as of tomorrow. Expect it to make its way to the UK shortly after, but honestly, we're a little dissapointed the camera doesn't feature light-field technology - we all know that's where the action is at.
